VetKeeper Privacy Policy
Last updated: Nov 2 2026
Overview
VetKeeper is designed to keep your pets' vaccine records, weight history, visit notes, and medication log stored privately on your own device. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.
What stays on your device
Your pets' names, vaccine records, weight history, visit notes, and any medications, doses, dose times, schedules, and reminder times you set are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This information is never uploaded to VetKeeper's own servers, synced to any account, or shared with any third party — because VetKeeper doesn't operate any servers of its own that store this data. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it, unless you've backed it up yourself (e.g. via iCloud device backup, which is controlled by your own iOS settings, not by VetKeeper).
Medication log entries are entered by you and never leave your device on their own — they are not sent to our server or to Anthropic. They are only shared if you choose to share a pet's PDF summary that includes them.
What gets sent off your device
When you scan a document (a photo or PDF of a vet record), that document is sent to a processing service in order to extract vaccine, weight, and visit information from it automatically. Specifically:
- The document image or PDF you choose to scan is sent to a server we operate, which forwards it to Anthropic (the company behind Claude, the AI model used for this extraction) for processing.
- Vet documents can contain personal information beyond your pet's records — for example, your name, address, and veterinary clinic name are commonly printed on vet receipts and invoices. This information is included in whatever document you choose to scan, since we cannot selectively redact it before sending.
- The extracted structured data (vaccine records, dates, weights) is returned to your device and stored locally, as described above.
- Our server does not store or log the documents you scan. It forwards each request to Anthropic for processing and returns the result to your device — we operate no database or file storage of your scanned documents and keep no copies of them.
- Anthropic's own handling of data sent to its API is governed by its own privacy policy and terms, available at https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
In-app purchases
VetKeeper offers an optional one-time purchase to unlock unlimited document scanning. All payment processing is handled directly by Apple through StoreKit — VetKeeper never receives or stores your payment card information.
Notifications
If you grant permission, VetKeeper sends local notifications: reminders before a vaccine is due and, for medications you choose, reminders at the times you set. These are scheduled entirely on your device and do not involve any remote push notification service. Medication reminders show your pet's name and the medication's name, including on the Lock Screen; you can hide the medication name in VetKeeper's Settings.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with any third party except Anthropic, solely for the purpose of processing documents you actively choose to scan, as described above.
Children's privacy
VetKeeper is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Your choices
Since your pet records are stored only on your device, you control them directly — you can view, edit, or delete any record within the app at any time. You can also decline camera, photo library, or notification permissions; the app will have reduced functionality but will not stop working entirely.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
